Transformational Sound Bath at the Portiuncula Center for Prayer in Frankfort, IL, Friday, October 2
$50 · 7:00–8:30 pm · Motherhouse Auditorium, St. Francis Woods
By Friday evening the week has had its say. The body is ready to stop. The mind hasn't gotten the message.
The Portiuncula Center takes its name from the little chapel St. Francis rebuilt near Assisi. The word means "little portion." For ninety minutes in St. Francis Woods, you're invited to claim a little portion of peace for yourself.
Bring a yoga mat, a blanket, and a pillow, and make yourself comfortable on the floor. We open with a short guided meditation to slow the breath. Then the sound begins.
Certified Gong Master Marian Kraus of Higher Frequency Living plays live on titanium and bronze gongs, Himalayan singing bowls, handpan, didgeridoo, drums, chimes, monochord and voice. There's no melody to follow and no rhythm to keep up with. There is only layered, lingering tone that fills the hall and slowly quiets the part of you that's always keeping score.
It works in two directions. You sink into rest, often deeper than sleep, sometimes into a feeling that's been waiting for room. And you rise: most people sit up clearer and more awake than when they lay down. Renewed, not drowsy.
Nothing is asked of you but stillness, and there's no way to get it wrong. In the spirit of Franciscan hospitality, all are welcome, whatever path brought you here.
Space in the auditorium is limited. Reserve your place through the Port today. If the floor isn't for you, request one of the few zero-gravity chairs when you register. Please visit and sign up directly through the Port’s website by clicking…
